What we learned this week #14

Happy Friday, one and all. And what better way to start the weekend than with a big, fat fact sandwich?

Here’s what we now know…

Some of you haven’t told your friends and colleagues about Quib.ly

What the WHAT?! You may well be sitting pretty with your invitation request safely in the bag, but what of your poor Quib.ly-less co-workers, relatives and friends? Please do tell anyone who may be interested that they can still request an invitation and, if they’re quick, they may be among the first batch of members allowed in. They just need to go towww.quib.ly.

There isn’t an obvious ‘right age’ to give your kid a phone

Not that we really thought there would be, but our recent LinkedIn discussion underlined what a tricky question it is. Where do you fall on the question?

53% teens regularly clear their browser history to keep their parents out of the loop

Yep, that’s a worry, isn’t it. Tell us in the comments below if you check your kids’ browsing history.

Our facts floweth over

Here’s a whistlestop tour of just a few nuggets our editor learned in one week’s worth of contributions…

  • You can build your own PC and it’s actually pretty straight forward. Though you may not save much cash.
  • Your child might not be prosecuted for downloading dodgy music. But you very well could be.
  • Dissection in science class could be the next thing to get the 3D treatment. (Eww).
  • It’s possible for a toddler on an iPhone to order a 42 inch TV. Says one of our writers, through the gritted teeth of bitter experience.
  • We’re not that far off printing our own chocolate bars. Hold on to your waistbands.
  • If your job is simple enough that you can describe how to do it in a few steps then the answer to the question – How long before robots have taken our jobs? – might be, ‘not very long, maybe a year or two.’
  • It takes more than a few steps to be an editor of the best new community on which to share insights and give kids the best head start in this connected world. PHEW.

You’ll be able to read hundreds of actual articles (rather than stingy snippets) very soon, just so long as you’ve requested an invite at www.quib.ly. Crack on!
